Dressed down by the Pope?

HT to Captain Ed

As we all know last Friday Nancy Pelosi pushed through the Pork-A-Palooza because she had a plane to catch. She was going to Rome to meet with the Italian prime minister, other dignitaries, and the Holy Father himself. Whispers in the Loggia reports that she got a talking to from Benedict XVI:

Following the General Audience the Holy Father briefly greeted Mrs Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, together with her entourage.

His Holiness took the opportunity to speak of the requirements of the natural moral law and the Church’s consistent teaching on the dignity of human life from conception to natural death which enjoin all Catholics, and especially legislators, jurists and those responsible for the common good of society, to work in cooperation with all men and women of good will in creating a just system of laws capable of protecting human life at all stages of its development.

Is this clear enough for Granny Rictus? There has never been a time in the Church's 2000 year-plus history when it hasn't been on the side of life. Now anyone can argue about the Crusades and the Spanish Inquisition, but that was carried out by the men running the Church. I'm referring to dogma, not doctrine. There's a difference.

Never has the Church turned it's back on children, or whether or not it was right and proper to defend their lives. There's no argument there. It's only people like Granny Rictus, Joe "Mr. Gaffe-tastic" Biden, John "Global Test" Kerry, and Ted "Swimmer" Kennedy that like to try and spin their pro-choice views as being in line with Church dogma when, in fact, they're not even close to what the Church teaches or believes.

The truth of the matter is that these people are secularists, at best, trying to play the public like they really go to Church, or that they believe the Catholic teachings of their youth. They can't. Even if they believe everything else they can't claim to be an "ardent" and faithful Catholic (like Granny Rictus does) and be pro-choice. Her pro-choice views are to keep her in line with the militant feminist special interest groups that back her for reelection. NOW and Planned Parenthood wouldn't give her a dime unless she was in line with their ideologies.

The message from the Pope was simple: Study up because you don't know what you're talking about. The other message was those with higher responsibility have an obligation when it comes to life. (That's why he threw in that little line about legislators and jurists, etc.) These people can't not say they haven't been told. She can't claim she wasn't told. She had a fifteen minute audience with the Pope. (She wasn't given Communion. As Captain Ed points out, she would if she attended a Papal Mass, but just an audience.) Will she change her views? Not likely, but she might keep her yap shut with regard to this issue.
