Obama's Creepy Plan For a Youth Group

The subject of this post is in regard to the following statement reported by the AARP via the McClatchy-Tribune News Service. (Sorry, I cannot find a direct link to the actual story on McClatchy site, but there is a headline note of it on their cache.) He is calling for a youth organization that is hardly volunteer:

"Loving your country shouldn't just mean watching fireworks on the 4th of July," he said. "Loving your country must mean accepting your responsibility to do your part to change it. If you do, your life will be richer, our country will be stronger."

In his speech at the University of Colorado campus, Obama pledged that enhanced public service and active citizenship would be a central cause of his presidency.

"We will ask Americans to serve," the Illinois Democrat said. "We will create new opportunities for Americans to serve." ...
Obama promised to increase AmeriCorps slots from 75,000 to 250,000 and pledged to double the size of the Peace Corps by 2011. ...
Obama had first outlined many of the proposals he talked about Wednesday during appearances in Iowa last December.

"We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set," he said Wednesday. "We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded."

He said he would make federal assistance conditional on school districts establishing service programs and set the goal of 50 hours of service a year for middle and high school students.

For college students, Obama would set the goal at 100 hours of service a year and create a $4,000 annual tax credit for college students that would be tied to that level of service.

Obama said he realizes there will be skeptics, but stressed that greater public service will make the nation safer.

This is incredibly distressing, and is vaguely reminiscent of the Hitler Youth that was established. This time around though Senator Obama is proposing a youth force that is as well-funded as the military. Think about that for a second. The military's budget is roughly half-a-trillion dollars. We do not need a civilian national security force, but he is insisting that we create one. Why?

What role would they play in national security? What is the scope of their jurisdiction? What powers will they have? Will they be able to trump established law enforcement/security forces already deployed by the federal government?

I bring up the topic of the Hitler Youth based, in great deal, upon Michelle Obama's comments in the past about her husband's "demand" that we all participate:

Barack Obama will require you to work. He is going to demand that you shed your cynicism. That you put down your divisions. That you come out of your isolation, that you move out of your comfort zones. That you push yourselves to be better. And that you engage. Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual, uninvolved, uninformed.

Readers will recall that I transcribed that infamous speech she gave, and even then Thomas and I agreed that the speech sounded too much like it just came from a fascist handbook. Nothing has changed our opinion since then. Think about what his demands are, and ask yourselves if this is the sort of man we want running the country. Our answer is an emphatic "NO."

This is the greatest, freest nation on the face of the planet, and despite our failings in some areas, it still provides far more opportunities for citizens than any other country. Drop the foolish notion that the Obama's are pushing that we need to fix this nation. There is no need for fixing anything. We like the country just the way it is. The only way to end insanity like what he is proposing is to defeat him in November. We suggest voters take heed, and make sure he does lose. If he wins, there will be dark days ahead for this nation, and changes no sensible American will embrace or accept.
