AQI now using children for attacks

You all will recall the report from last week regarding the two Downs Syndrome girls used as suicide bombers, yes? Well it seems that wasn't a fluke. Jamil didn't miss his date with 72 virgins. Nope, it appears that AQI is actively recruiting and using children now:

Videotapes seized during U.S. raids on suspected al-Qaida in Iraq hide-outs show the terror group training young boys to kidnap and assassinate civilians, U.S. and Iraqi officials said Wednesday.

Footage aired for reporters showed an apparent training operation with black-masked boys — some of whom appeared to be about 10 years old — storming a house and holding guns to the heads of mock residents. Another tape showed a young boy wearing a suicide vest and posing with automatic weapons.

But U.S. and Iraqi officials said they could offer no estimate on how many children have fallen under the terror group's control. They named just a handful of attacks blamed on women or children.

The American military said some of the tapes were found in December during a U.S. raid in Khan Bani Saad, northeast of Baghdad, and said it indicated a pattern that al-Qaida in Iraq was increasingly using children for sinister means.

"Al-Qaida in Iraq wants to poison the next generation of Iraqis," Rear Adm. Gregory Smith, a U.S. military spokesman, told reporters Wednesday inside the heavily guarded Green Zone. "It is offering children as the new generation of mujahedeen," he said, using the Arabic term for holy warriors.

"We believe this video is used as propaganda to send out to recruit other boys ... and to send a broader message across Iraq to indoctrinate youth into al-Qaida," he said.

This says a lot about AQI right now. Are they this desperate for fighters that they have to focus on the youth? Anyone else notice that the bad guys always rely on children as they are far more easily swayed and indoctrinated than adults? Before I go further, I want readers to know that if these kids are being trained for these eviul means, our troops won't hesitate to put them down. I know that sounds cold and callous, but if these kids are being trained to carry out attacks, then they're just as deadly as a seasoned AQI fighter, only worse. As children, they usually escape notice by the general populace until it's too late.

But this does show a great deal of desperation on their part. And there are rumors coming out of Iraq that AQI might be looking for an exit strategy from that theater, resigned to the fact that they failed in their mission. they didn't break us, nor did they make us retreat. the surge has accomplished it's set task in dismantling the insurgencies, and taking the fight to AQI.

In 1945 as the Allies rolled into Berlin, they were confronted with the sight of children fighting them in the streets. When the despots resort to such tactics, you they're not just on the ropes. They're ready for a knockout.
