The pessimist showing even more pessimism

Don't get us wrong. We like Allah over at Hot Air. But he admitted his pessimism on Friday and some at NRO share the same concern as shown in this AoSHQ rebuttal thread. No one should jump on the bandwagon until they have vetted Governor Palin themselves. We have, and that's why we're on board. We can understand the concern of those on our side that question the brilliant move by John McCain in choosing her.

But there comes a time to put "the sky is falling" meme to bed. Given the crazy conspiracy theories posited by the KosKiddies over the weekend about Trig Palin's real mother (Yes, it's Sarah Palin), this should shut those down quickly:

The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.

Bristol Palin, one of Alaska Gov. Palin's five children with her husband, Todd, is about five months pregnant and is going to keep the child and marry the father, the Palins said in a statement released by the campaign of Republican presidential candidate John McCain. ...

"Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support," the Palins said.

The Palins asked the news media to respect the young couple's privacy.

"Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family. We ask the media, respect our daughter and Levi's privacy as has always been the tradition of children of candidates," the statement concluded.

OK Kossacks, riddle us this ... Trig Palin was born in April. Bristol is five months pregnant. Math isn't a strong suit for you guys, is it.

And yes, John McCain knew about it and still didn't think it disqualified Governor Palin:

Senior McCain campaign officials said McCain knew of the daughter's pregnancy when he selected Palin last week as his vice presidential running mate, deciding that it did not disqualify the 44-year-old governor in any way. ...

McCain officials said the news of the daughter's pregnancy was being released to rebut what one aide called "mud-slinging and lies" circulating on liberal blog sites.

According to these rumors, Sarah Palin had faked a pregnancy and pretended to have given birth in May to her fifth child, a son named Trig who has Down syndrome. The rumor was that Trig was actually Bristol Palin's child and that Sarah Palin was the grandmother.

A senior McCain campaign official said the McCain camp was appalled that these rumors had not only been spread around liberal blog sites and partisan Democrats, but also were the subject of heightened interest from mainstream news media.

Like I said, we can understand some concern from our side over the pick of Governor Palin, but the more that is learned about her the more people like what they see. The charges of inexperience, the attacks on her supposed flip-flop on the infamous "Bridge to Nowhere," and the nutty conspiracy theories from the fringe-Left fever swamp aren't going to hold water, especially when the people learn more about her.

Pessimism has it's place. Trust me, I know because I used to be that way. But it just doesn't pay to be a grousing curmudgeon all the time. But there is a point where you have to look at the bright side of things. Personally, our bright side will come when Sarah Palin dukes it out with Joe Biden. We're optimistic, given what we've seen of her in interviews, that she is going to clean his clock. Captain Ed pointed to the desperation that Democrats have gone through since the Friday announcement and they don't appear to be getting any traction amongst mature, common sense political junkies like us, and other bloggers. They only seem to have ground in the fever-swamp.
